The Great music revival and the increasing success of a whole array of newcomers convinced Noel Cassidy that he should follow the popular trend and try his hand at recording Country and Irish material. Previously, Noel had confined his musical activities to frequent appearances on the local pub and cabaret scene in his native County Longford.

In the very early seventies Noel Cassidy took the emigrant boat. He was no more than fifteen at the time. Indeed, because of his early introduction to life away from home, Noel now feels a great affinity for the many Irish who were forced to emigrate. While in Britain Noel developed a keen interest in music and before returning to Ireland he purchased a guitar. Subsequently he formed a group called the Wagonmasters and built up a steady following in the Longford and surrounding areas. When the time came to turn professional, Noel was well and truly ready, not simply eager.

Noel's debut ten-track cassette, containing such standards as 'You Seldom come to see me anymore, Rose of the Mountain, Lusmagh Fields and The Moods Of Mary, proved especially popular, particularly around the Midlands. his first four-track cassette / EP release, 'We'll sweep out the ashes in the morning' recieved a good degree of airplay on national and regional radio. In 1990 his recording of Southern Dixie Flyer, a four-track cassette / EP, marked Noel Cassidy's coming of age in the Country music world. Apart from the title track, Noel featured a selection of American and Irish material, including 'Railroad Bum, Old Love Letters and My Grass is Greener. The compilation fully deserved the success it earned and proved a worthwhile investment. Furthermore, his marvellous follow-up release, 'Oldtime waltz', written specifically for Noel by Peter lawlor, a former member of The Pacific, did much to enhance the Ballinamuck singer's reputation as a recording artist.

These days Noel is in constant demand, thanks to his relaxed stage presence and lively music repertoire.

It is never easy to secure that all-important breakthrough but Noel Cassidy has shown that he possesses the requisite talent and commitment.
